Dive into Marine Chemistry: Chemists Celebrate Earth Week! (CCEW)

This week, Olive Children Foundation was the proud host of a series of free community science education outreach events in conjunction with the American Chemical Society (ACS) and as part of a national initiative called Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW)! This year's theme was Dive into Marine Chemistry. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event a huge success! More information about the CCEW program with the American Chemical Society can be found online here.

Our guest speaker, Mr. Avery Kruger, shared his expertise in marine biology and his experiences as a researcher aboard the E/V Nautilus. Participants performed a variety of fascinating hands-on activities, including saltwater density rainbows, oil spill cleanups, and the effects of acidified/carbonated water on calcium carbonate seashells, all while learning about the chemistry of ocean systems.
